I designed a book cover for The Faraway by Bernadette Noval, a psychological horror novel targetting 18-34-year-olds seeking escapism. The project required a front cover, spine, and back, balancing text and imagery while ensuring legibility and strong connotations of the genre.
Inspired by psychedelic horror, I explored mark-making and abstract visuals to evoke mystery. Using photocopied textures, swirl effects, and gradient ramps, I represented the protagonist’s split personality. A high-contrast red and dark palette heightened the unease. The final design seamlessly blends horror and psychedelia, creating a cohesive and striking visual that reinforces the novel’s unsettling atmosphere.
